There are few chips as versatile as Fritos. The PepsiCo-owned brand comes in bold flavors such as Ranch and Chili Cheese but their usefulness goes far beyond the snack drawer. Fritos make the perfect topping for chili, can be layered into a casserole, and even be coated in chocolate and peanut butter to make a tasty party treat known as Fruckies.
Fans love incorporating Fritos into their fast food items, too. In the past, Taco Bell and Sonic have added menu items that incorporate the salty corn chip into burritos, burgers, and wraps.
Now, Fritos is teaming up with Taco John’s to bring a beloved Midwestern classic to the drive-thru: walking tacos.
Taco John’s Is Testing Fritos Taco Mixers
Taco John’s is testing Fritos Taco Mixers, a reimagined walking taco, in select locations. The menu item features Fritos and the chain’s ultra-crispy Potato Olés, which are crunchy fried potato bites coated in the chain’s signature blend of spices.
Frito Taco Mixers include flavorful layers of seasoned ground beef, nacho cheese, taco sauce, lettuce, tomato, and sour cream. The stacked à la carte item is served in a foil-lined bag, making it easier than ever to dig in while you’re on the go.
For those unfamiliar, Walking Tacos are similar to Frito Pie, except they add taco toppings right into a single-serving chip bag. If you live in the Midwest, there’s a good chance you have fond memories of walking around a tailgate or state fair while chowing down on a taco in a bag. Taco John’s hopes to rekindle those nostalgic moments with this launch as it adds its own spin to the classic dish.
“At Taco John’s, we believe in celebrating the flavors that bring back fond memories. By pairing our signature ingredients with classic Fritos corn chips, we’re putting a delightful twist on a beloved format,” said Brad Bergaus, Corporate Chef and Director of Menu Innovation at Taco John’s.
Currently, Fritos Taco Mixers are only available at participating locations in Paducah, Kentucky, Evansville, Indiana, and Sioux City, Iowa. If the testing phase goes well, there’s a chance we could see these expand availability in the future, but until then, you can just whip up a batch of homemade walking tacos to satisfy your cravings.
