From Invasion of the Body Snatchers and Independence Day to Arrival and The Day the Earth Stood Still, alien invasion stories are everywhere. But! Most of those are told from the perspective of the humans being invaded. The aliens are the other. The trauma is our own. And none of them are fully illustrated by the manic comic legend Jock.
Invader, a new illustrated novel, flips both of those things. From writers Brian DeLeeuw and Adam Egypt Mortimer (Daniel Isn’t Real), it’s an alien invasion story told from the alien perspective. Crystallized aliens crash on Earth and begin to take over anything, or anybody, in their way. That is until one of those snatched bodies has more of a consciousness than the rest, and a war begins between humans, aliens, and the human with an alien inside. All of which is illustrated by Jock, best known for The Losers, Batman, Wytches, and his contributions to films like Dredd, Ex Machina, and Star Wars: The Last Jedi.
