The upcoming PS5 Slim Digital is getting an awesome-looking Anniversary Edition that features PS1-inspired faceplates and DualSense controller. The $500 console will launch on November 21, but preorders go live at online retailers starting October 10 at 10 am ET / 7 am PT. We expect the PS5 Slim Digital Anniversary Edition to sell out fast online, so be sure to bookmark the links below so you can be ready to grab the console once preorders are live.
$500
The PS5 Slim Digital Anniversary Edition will be available to preorder at Walmart, Best Buy, and Target. Note that Walmart preorders are exclusive to paid Walmart+ members ($13/month or $98/year). While that may be an extra hurdle to jump through for Walmart shoppers, the upshot is you hopefully won’t have to contend with as many people–nor as many bots and scalpers–trying to order the console at the same time. Luckily, new members can sign up for Walmart+ and get a free 30-day trial. Online preorders at Best Buy and Target are open to all customers.
The PS5 Slim Digital Anniversary Edition costs $100 more than the baseline PS5 Slim Digital, and is identical to it in terms of hardware and features, but comes with exclusive faceplates and a DualSense controller with gray color schemes inspired by the original PlayStation console. Like the regular PS5 Slim Digital, the Anniversary Edition does not include a disc drive, so it can only play digitally-downloaded PS5 games out of the box. You can purchase the optional PS5 Disc Drive accessory if you want to play physical games on the system, and it comes with an extra PS1-themed faceplate that will fit around the drive once attached. The PS5 disc drive normally costs $80–however, due to the upcoming PS5 Slim Digital Anniversary Collection and disc-drive-less PS5 Pro, the PS5 Disc Drive is hard to come by right now. That said, it’s worth checking out the links below to see if it’s in stock.
PS5 Pro and PS5 Chroma preorders
As mentioned above, the PS5 Pro is also launching in a few weeks on November 7. Early preorders have been available exclusively through the PlayStation Store, but go live at major retailers starting October 10. Check our PS5 Pro preorder guide for everywhere you can order the new, more powerful version of Sony’s latest console.
Alongside the new PS5 consoles, Sony is also launching a new Chroma line of console faceplates and DualSense controllers featuring unique iridescent color schemes.
