Don’t Wait for Prime Day: Snag This $50 Discount on Both PlayStation 5 Versions Now

Estimated read time 2 min read

Sony’s new spin on the PlayStation 5 hit shelves in November last year with a much slimmer build and additional storage space. This year’s refresh saw the debut of the PlayStation 5 Pro for an eye-watering $700. It hasn’t replaced the old lineup, however, and now’s a great time to jump on board if you haven’t already, especially with pre-Prime Day price cuts. Amazon has taken the liberty of offering up discounts ahead of Prime Day on the popular console.

The PS5 suffered a jump in price with its latest refresh, with the discless option suffering a $50 rise in price. But as part of early Prime Day sales for October, you can save $50 on both disc-based and digital-only consoles right now. The digital-only model is currently down to $400, with the disc drive-equipped version now down to $449

These deals are well worth taking advantage of if you want to access next-gen games like Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, Demon’s Souls and many more. Just note that these prices are exclusively available to Prime members.

“I’m extremely impressed with the entire PS5 package,” CNET’s Dan Ackerman wrote in his review of the original 2020 model. “The design is bold. The new controller is a big step forward, both in ergonomics and features, and the addition of the new built-in controller mic (and sold-separately new HD webcam) will no doubt send many new streamers to Twitch and other platforms to show off.”

Aside from the slimmer design, the only noticeable difference under the hood is that the new model has 1TB of storage instead of 825GB. The disc drive can also be removed. If you’re a basketball fan, a PS5 digital edition bundle with NBA 2K25 has similarly dropped in price, from $500 to $427 — again the lowest price we’ve seen at the retailer. A great excuse to treat yourself, as we’re unsure if the holiday sales will beat this.
