Camping enthusiasts will tell you that solitude and relaxation are key when spending a few nights in the great outdoors. They also might not tell you that some of the best camping of the year isn’t from Memorial Day to Labor Day – it’s still yet to come.
If you haven’t tried camping in the fall, it’s worth considering. Autumn camping is more enjoyable because there’s not yet a chill in the air, and with most of the crowds, bugs, and scorching temperatures gone, many of the best campsites are readily available.
Ryan “Cal” Callaghan is no stranger to sleeping under the stars. He’s the Director of Conservation at MeatEater and the National Board Chair of Backcountry Hunters and Anglers. He often spends as many as 80 nights a year camping – typically on public lands.
Cal has a lot to say about being careful when making gear selections. His advice is helpful for campers of all skill levels. “Even if you’re planning on car camping, always look for innovative ways to save space.”
Most of us won’t get the opportunity to camp as frequently as Cal does, but fortunately, plenty of camping gear is available at Target to make your next adventure more enjoyable—and it’s all on sale now.
