Destiny fans think that a Bungie developer is teasing something related to the series, possibly a third mainline entry, through a series of cryptic tweets.
Destiny executive director Luke Smith took to Twitter to talk about Destiny 2’s most recent expansion, The Final Shape.
“Our Hope is always the same with Destiny games, expansions, seasons, DLCs, exotic missions, secret missions, in-game events, merchandise,” he said. “We genuinely Hope you enjoy the time you spend with it. Anything we’ve made or will make, that’s the Hope.”
Fans noted that he capitalized the word “hope” three times, and think that Smith is hinting at Destiny 3. It’s currently unknown whether The Final Shape will be the last expansion for Destiny 2, but Bungie said that it’s far from being the end of the game.
Bungie is already working on a reboot of the Marathon series, this time as a multiplayer extraction shooter. It was revealed in May 2023 and doesn’t have a release window yet. Back in 2019 when Bungie split with Destiny’s previous publisher, Activision, an analyst predicted that Destiny 3 would be released in 2020. Clearly, that didn’t happen, but Destiny 3 could still be possible within the next several years.
Destiny 2’s The Final Shape expansion is now available for PC, PlayStation, and Xbox.
