Wave-frame grenade launchers are among the best guns in Destiny 2 for killing lots of enemies quickly. Martyr’s Retribution, a new grenade launcher added with the final act of the Echoes episode, expands your arsenal with a Solar entry into the group. The Martyr’s Retribution god roll is a great PvE weapon, thanks to perks that give it great Solar synergy and help keep you alive when things get hairy. Here are the rolls you’ll want to chase throughout the last few weeks of Echoes.
While you’re at it, check out our guide on how to nab Echoes’ new Exotic, Choir of One, and unlock its craftable catalysts and upgrades.
How To Get Martyr’s Retribution
Martyr’s Retributions is now part of the Echoes loot pool, which means you can get it from Echoes activities and Echoes Engrams. The easiest way to get the weapon is by playing Echoes activities like Breach Executable, Battlegrounds, and Enigma Protocol, as well as from the new Exotic mission, Encore: Overture. It’s also possible to focus Echoes Engrams for the gun with Failsafe, but focusing requires a vendor upgrade to Failsafe that’s not in the game yet. Martyr’s Retribution isn’t craftable, so you’ll need to keep earning the gun in order to find the specific roll you want.
Martyr’s Retribution God Rolls
Martyr’s Retribution PvE God Roll
- Barrel: Quick Launch
- Velocity +10, Handling +15
- Magazine: High-Velocity Rounds
- Velocity +10, Reload Speed +10
- First Perk: Heal Clip
- Reloading after dealing a final blow grants Cure to you and your nearby allies. You have additional time to perform the reload.
- Second Perk: Incandescent
- Defeating a target spreads a longer lasting scorch to those nearby. More powerful combatants and opposing Guardians cause scorch in a larger radius.
- Masterwork: Velocity
A few of the Solar weapons released in Echoes have brought together two of the element’s best perks–Heal Clip and Incandescent–and that combination makes Martyr’s Retribution pretty powerful as well. You might have a few guns running this combo at this point, but Martyr’s is the only wave-frame Solar grenade launcher that combines them, and it’s a solid duo. Since the launcher only fires one round at a time before reloading, Heal Clip gets activated constantly if you’re racking up kills. Incandescent, meanwhile, is a highly effective add-on to an already powerful weapon, great for burning and exploding lots of enemies quickly.
For your barrel and magazine, focus on the velocity and handling stats. Velocity determines how fast your grenades get where you shoot them, which effectively makes the launcher more accurate, while handling helps when you want to swap to it quickly to deal with a developing situation.

- Magazine: High-Velocity Rounds
- Velocity +10, Reload Speed +10
- First Perk: Heal Clip
- Reloading after dealing a final blow grants Cure to you and your nearby allies. You have additional time to perform the reload.
- Second Perk: Desperate Measures
- Weapon final blows grant bonus damage for an improved duration. Melee and grenade final blows grant a larger damage bonus that can stack.
- Masterwork: Velocity
Full disclosure: You’re not going to get much use out of Martyr’s Retribution in the Crucible, as it’s much more purpose-built for PvE. If you have to use it, focus on boosting its velocity stat so that your grenades get to your Guardian targets before they have a chance to move or dodge. Heal Clip is still a solid choice here, as if you manage to get a kill with Martyr’s Retribution, your next shot will help keep you alive a little longer. Desperate Measures also boosts the gun’s damage without much difficulty, especially if you use it after a grenade or melee kill.
Echoes introduced two other weapons as well. Check out our guides for grabbing Speleologist god rolls and Chronophage god rolls as well.
