Deadpool & Wolverine’s Final Trailer Is a Love Letter to the Wolverines

Estimated read time 3 min read

Deadpool & Wolverine might just be a week away at this point, but Marvel wants to give us one final look at the movie before it drops–and give us some surprising reveals along the way.

If you would prefer to wait a week before diving into Marvel Studios’ first major cinematic foray into its re-ownership of the X-Men in the wake of the Disney-Fox merger, then look away now. Everyone else? Get ready for what is a surprisingly self-serious trailer for a Deadpool movie.

Rather than leaning into the goofy Deadpool hijinks practically every other thing we’ve seen about the film so far, this last trailer is a rather more somber look at the legacy of Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine–interspersing clips of Jackman’s down-and-out alternate version that we’ll actually spend time with in this movie with clips from decades of his appearances as Logan throughout the Fox X-Men films. All that, of course, is in service of Deadpool trying to convince that this particular Logan can be the same kind of enduring hero that one was… with a surprising bit of help in the form of a grown up Laura Kinney.

Dafne Keen (fresh off her appearance as Jecki Lon in The Acolyte) makes a surprise return as her Logan character–the cloned mutant formerly known as X-23, who in the comics has gone on to inherit the Wolverine mantle alongside Logan multiple times. But that’s not the only surprise in this trailer, which also has better looks at the arrivals of the Deadpool Corps (largely in the form of Lady Deadpool, which will no doubt continue to keep those already-denied Taylor Swift rumors rolling), and of course, the film’s big bad in the form of Cassandra Nova. But if this is what Marvel’s willing to show off publicly a week before release, what other big reveals could the film itself be hiding?

We’ll find out next week, when Deadpool & Wolverine hits theaters July 26.
