Just when you thought you had some idea of what to expect when Deadpool & Wolverine hits theaters next week, there’s a whole new wrinkle. Marvel just revealed the track listing for what’s being called Deadpool & Wolverine’s “Van Jamz,” and if these songs are actually in the movie, we have no idea how the heck they’ll all fit into the story.
The tracklisting was revealed online as follows:
- The Platters – “Only You (And You Alone)”
- *NSYNC – “Bye Bye Bye”
- Merrilee Rush & The Turnabouts – “Angel of the Morning”
- Stray Kids – “Slash”
- Fergie – “Glamorous”
- The Goo Goo Dolls – “Iris”
- Huey Lewis & The News – “The Power of Love”
- Waylon Jennings – “I’m A Ramblin’ Man”
- Patsy Cline (featuring The Jordanaires) – “You Belong to Me”
- Chris de Burgh – “The Lady in Red”
- Avril Lavigne – “I’m With You”
- The Greatest Showman cast – “The Greatest Show”
- Olivia Newton-John and John Travolta – “You’re the One That I Want”
- Jimmy Durante – “I’ll Be Seeing You”
- Eric Carmen – “Make Me Lose Control”
- Aretha Franklin – “You’re All I Need to Get By”
- Green Day – “Good Riddance (Time of Your Life)”
- Rob Simonsen – “LFG” (Theme from Deadpool & Wolverine)
That’s quite the eclectic mix of songs, is it not? And, of course, a few jump out. “The Greatest Show” from The Greatest Showman, for example, is a song from the hit Hugh Jackman musical. Will Wolverine acknowledge that he’s played by Jackman in this movie? Do Deadpool and Wolverine visit a multiverse where Wolverine created a circus?
“You’re the One That I Want” also sticks out. That’s from the movie Grease and while it could certainly be used in some kind of funny, romantic scene as it was in that film, do you really believe that’ll happen?
There’s also a lot of 2000s pop on there, from *NSYNC and Green Day to Avril Lavigne and Fergie. Is that when this movie is set? Or is Wade Wilson just a fan of the era?
As we said, this soundtrack is insane. And while we aren’t 100% sure if these tracks are all in the movie (io9 reached out to Disney for clarification and will update this post if/when we hear back), we sincerely hope they are.
Deadpool & Wolverine opens next week. Keep it locked here for more coverage.
