With shows like Invasion, Silo, and Foundation, AppleTV+ has already established itself as the home for some of the best sci-fi on streaming, and it’s about to add another one to its lineup. The first trailer for Apple TV+’s Dark Matter has been revealed, and it introduces viewers to Joel Edgerton’s Jason Dessen, a family man who is happily married to Daniela Dessen (Jennifer Connelly) while they raise their son, Charlie (Oakes Fegley). But one trip through the multiverse is about to change Jason’s life forever.
As seen in the trailer above, Jason didn’t have any choice in the matter. From his perspective, he was kidnapped, drugged, and taken to another world where he isn’t married to Daniela. Instead, his wife is Amanda (Alice Braga), and none of his friends or acquaintances know who he is. And although it takes Jason a while to accept this, the only person who could have done this to him is another version of himself.
The trailer does offer a few glimpses of what the alternate Jason is doing on the original Jason’s world. Neither Daniela nor Charlie are blind to the apparent changes in Jason’s persona, but they don’t have enough information to guess that he’s been replaced by his double. Meanwhile, Jason and Amanda make the attempt to find his home, which may be nearly impossible given the infinite number of alternate worlds.
Dark Matter will debut on Apple TV+ on May 8 with two episodes. The remaining seven episodes will premiere weekly.
