Creature Commandos is a new adult animated series written entirely by DCU co-chair James Gunn. The program follows a dysfunctional group of monsters imprisoned by Amanda Waller, tasked with committing heroic acts to keep humanity safe. Or something like that. It’s inspired by the comic book run from the early ’80s and is seen as an official reboot of the DC Comics cinematic universe.
The program takes place after the events of the first season of Peacemaker and finds Waller changing her strategy a bit: Instead of putting human lives in harm’s way, she’s now using supernatural creatures to do her bidding. What could possibly go wrong?
This crew of kooky commandos is led by General Rick Flag Sr. (voiced by Frank Grillo). Joining Grillo in the cast are Viola Davis as Waller, Alan Tudyk as Dr. Phosphorus, Indira Varma as Bride of Frankenstein, David Harbour as Eric Frankenstein, Anya Chalotra as Circe, Zoe Chao as Nina Mazursky and Maria Bakalova as Ilana Rostovic.
Considering this is the first official project released under the new DCU banner, something tells me this one will be worth watching, especially for fans of the comic book franchise.
