It’s time to return to Middle-earth.
Today at San Diego Comic-Con, fans got a huge look at season two of The Rings of Power, the prequel series for J.R.R. Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings. The series follows a younger Galadriel on a quest for vengeance against Sauron, a servant of the Dark Lord Morgoth who the elves had just defeated in a brutal war. The end of season 1 left our crew with not three, but four magical rings in play and lots of political alliances to be made and mended.
Season 2 will premiere on Aug. 29, 2024 on Prime Video, and it will be bringing in some new faces to join our crew in Middle Earth, including Kevin Eldon as master dwarf blacksmith Narvi. A teaser trailer dropped in May and revealed Sauron’s harrowing arrival, but fans packed into Hall H to see a new official trailer.
CNET’s Aaron Pruner is on the ground at SDCC, and shared that showrunners revealed tension between Sauron and Adar, nuclear-level stakes, a massive orc fight and giant, otherworldly creatures. Trouble is also on the horizon for Númenor, and with the rings now in play, power is up for grabs. Stream season 1 and stay tuned for more of CNET’s Comic-Con 2024 coverage.
