What to expect from Season 1
A new season of Call of Duty means a new battle pass to level up. Activision hasn’t revealed the details of the pass, but that information will likely be released closer to launch.
If this year follows recent Call of Duty post-launch seasons, the update will likely include new limited-time events, seasonal challenges, and more DLC weapons to unlock. It will also include Black Ops 6’s integration with Warzone, adding the game’s new mechanics and features into battle royale.
Black Ops 6
Black Ops 6 launched with 16 brand-new maps, and Nuketown was just recently added as the first DLC map. However, players can expect even more maps to be available with Season 1. Activision has revealed three new core multiplayer maps:
- Extraction is a 6v6 map that is set on a dock with boats and helipads.
- Hideout is a 6v6 map that features clusters of small buildings and shipping crates.
- Heirloom takes place inside a museum. This map will be available in 6v6 as well as 2v2 Gunfight.
Treyarch has tweeted that these three maps aren’t the only ones arriving in Season 1, suggesting that these are just the launch maps, and more maps will be added for the midseason update.
Zombies mode launched with Liberty Falls and Terminus, but a third map is announced for Season 1. Activision says the map is “terrifying” and will arrive sometime in-season, which most likely means it will release with the midseason update.
Warzone
Black Ops 6 will finally integrate into Warzone with the start of Season 1. This includes the game’s advanced omnimovement, weapon pool, as well as new loadout equipment featured in the game. This update will also remove the backpack system introduced in MW2, and instead players will have the simplified loadout style and looting mechanics of the original Warzone.
Modern Warfare 3’s Urzikstan is remaining as Warzone’s large map, while the Resurgence mode will include the new Area 99 map.
After a year of Ranked Play Resurgence mode on Rebirth Island, players can finally return to a standard competitive mode for Warzone. Ranked play will be featured on Urzikstan this year, and the mode will arrive sometime after the launch of Season 1.
Additionally, the update will introduce Call of Duty’s classic Prestige system, and for the first time ever, Warzone will have its own unique Mastery camo grind.
Black Ops 6 recently had an update to nerf overpowered flashbangs and Recon Combat Specialty bonus, and the full patch notes can be found here. For more, you can check out GameSpot’s Black Ops 6 campaign, multiplayer, and Zombies reviews.
