Even before San Diego Comic-Con’s surprise news that Robert Downey Jr. was back in the MCU as Doctor Doom, we’d heard rumblings that Marvel Studios was trying to bring back a few of its first Avengers for another team-up. Now, it might be one step closer.
The Wrap reports that Chris Evans has joined the cast of Avengers: Doomsday, but intriguingly, the outlet notes that there’s no solid details yet as to the nature of his role. That could, potentially, mean that Evans is not reprising his role as Steve Rogers, the first Captain America–but like Downey is returning in another role through multiversal shenanigans, as he did to reprise the role of Fantastic Four‘s Johnny Storm in Deadpool & Wolverine.
io9 has reached out to Marvel Studios for comment, and will update this post if and when we hear back.
