Chips Ahoy Unveils the Biggest Cookie It’s Ever Made

Estimated read time 3 min read

Though its signature chocolate chip cookie might coast along unaltered in the American subconscious, Chips Ahoy! is a brand that’s been making big changes in 2024.

In March, it debuted a new and “MMMproved” recipe, its biggest update in a decade, which includes more vanilla in the dough and chocolate chips with a higher cacao content. Just two months later in May, the company announced the very first Chips Ahoy! Gluten Free cookie, a permanent addition to the lineup.

And rolling into stores this week is — literally — the brand’s most massive disruption yet: Chips Ahoy! Big Chewy Cookies, a product three times the size of the original. Chips Ahoy! playfully calls this product its “biggest” innovation in 60 years. Not only is the diameter three times the size of the classic, crunchy cookies, but each chocolate chip is also four times larger than the original variety.

Even the packaging of the product is new: While Chips Ahoy! snacks are typically sold in large, plastic boxes of multiple cookies, the new Big Chewy Cookies will be individually wrapped and sold for a suggested retail price of $2.29 each. The rollout is targeting convenience stores, rather than traditional grocery store aisles — and these sound like the perfect thing to grab while you’re making a pit stop.

The soft-baked Big Cookies are 2.5 oz. each, and ideal for people who prefer a chewy (not crispy) treat. The new snack will come in three flavors: Chocolate Chip, Chocolatey Brownie, and Chocolatey Caramel.

“For over 60 years, Chips Ahoy! cookies have been the go-to cookie for chocolate chip cookie lovers of all ages,” said senior brand manager Jen Levin in a press release. “Now, with the launch of Chips Ahoy! Big Chewy Cookies, we’re excited to be their on-the-go cookie choice as well, offering indulgence and happiness in each big, delicious bite.”

Many different consumer packaged goods brands are looking to increase their retail presence in order to boost sales.

Earlier this month, Stouffer’s announced that it would be releasing its first-ever non-frozen product, a boxed mac and cheese with dry noodles and a liquid cheese sauce packet, clearly hoping they’d catch the attention of shoppers who might default to picking up Kraft or Velveeta-branded meals. Similarly, by debuting a single-serve cookie that’s meant to be stocked alongside the grab-and-go snacks at convenience stores, Chips Ahoy! is priming its product to be seen by new consumers.

Levin also noted that “… perhaps the best part of all? Their bigger size means you have enough Chips Ahoy! deliciousness to share with a friend!” Sure, they might be big enough to split, but something tells me that all that chocolate and caramel will be hard to part with.
