It’s officially 2025, and Chipotle Mexican Grill is celebrating by giving away Lifestyle Bowls all year long. But if you want one, you’ll have to run, bike, or walk for it.
On Thursday, the fast-casual restaurant announced that it’s partnering up with Strava once again, this time for the first-ever international Strava segment challenge, which will have participants competing to win free Lifestyle Bowls for a year — and they could even win free Chipotle for their entire city. And in 2025, the challenge will be open to more cities around the globe to get as many people involved as possible.
“Last year, we learned about the literal great lengths that our fans will go to for free Chipotle. Participants logged more than 9.25 million miles on ‘Chipotle segments,’ the equivalent of circling the planet more than 370 times,” Chris Brandt, the chief brand officer at Chipotle, shared in a statement provided to Food & Wine. “After seeing the passion our fans had for the initial launch with Strava, we had to increase access to the competition and raise the stakes.”
As the brand further explained, the challenge will be open to 25 cities — representing the top 25 cities that eat the most Chipotle — in North America and Europe, including New York City, London, Paris, and Toronto (see the full list of cities at chipotle.com/city-challenge).
Here’s how the challenge works:
Chipotle and Strava created 25 “Chipotle segments,” which are portions of roads and trails originally mapped by the Strava community. Now through January 31, Strava athletes can compete with one another on the routes for the fastest times on the leaderboard and compete for Local Legend Status (LCL), an award for the individual who completes the segment the most times. Chipotle will then reward the Local Legend in each city with free Lifestyle Bowls for a year.
And new this year, every city with a Chipotle segment will also get to compete as a group to see who can collectively run the highest mileage on the segment, which will all be tracked on the “Chipotle x Strava: The City Challenge” heatmap. The city with the highest mileage, in the end, will win a “buy-one-get-one” entrée offer for their entire city (valid on in-store orders on a to-be-determined date to be announced by Chipotle).
But this isn’t the only way to get involved. Chipotle is also hosting a challenge to help us all get past “Quitters Day,” the second Friday of January, which is the statistical date on which most people quit their New Year’s resolutions.
From now through January 9, anyone can visit chipotle.com/lsb-text to join the “Goals, Gym, Guac” text message community. Throughout the month, Chipotle will text its community with exclusive content, motivational messages, and a chance to snag a free Chipotle Lifestyle Bowl.
“It’s well known that having an accountability buddy makes it easier to accomplish wellness goals,” Stephanie Perdue, the vice president of brand marketing at Chipotle, added. “We are showing up for our guests with our version of a group chat to make healthy habits fun on ‘No Quitters Day.’”
And in case you’re unfamiliar with the Lifestyle Bowls, Chipotle shared the following menu, which has been updated for 2025:

- Veggie Full Bowl: White Rice, Black Beans, Fajita Veggies, Fresh Tomato Salsa, Roasted Chili-Corn Salsa, Guac
