Food supplier National Sourcing International (NSI) just recalled select pouches of chia seeds sold at Walmart, according to the Food & Drug Administration (FDA). The company issued the recall after finding some products potentially contaminated with Salmonella.
This recall affects some 32-ounce pouches of Great Value Organic Black Chia Seeds. The products were sold in Walmart retailers nationwide. If you purchased this product, check the front and back labels for any of the following information:
- Lot Code: 24095 C018
- UPC: 078742300665
- Expiration Date: October 30, 2026
If your pouch of chia seeds lists the above codes and/or expiration date, dispose of it immediately. Make sure to keep your receipt on hand, as NSI will replace any recalled products with proof of purchase.
As of yet, no incidents or infections have been reported in connection to this recall. However, Salmonella can cause serious health complications. Common symptoms include fever, stomach cramps and diarrhea, and the symptoms can last up to 7 days. Salmonella is not typically life threatening, but severe cases may lead to hospitalization. If you are experiencing the above effects after consuming this impacted product, contact your health care provider as soon as possible.
