Carrie-Anne Moss Is Like A Jedi Trinity In Star Wars: The Acolyte

No joke, actress Carrie-Anne Moss knows Force-fu in the upcoming Star Wars TV series, The Acolyte. That’s because her character, Jedi Master Indara, takes direct inspiration from her iconic role as Trinity in The Matrix franchise.

Speaking with Empire, The Acolyte creator Leslye Headland discussed the connections between Trinity and Indara. “I personally wanted to see someone who had the highest status you could imagine in a Force-fu fight–somebody that would come in and you immediately would be like, ‘Oh, that’s the most powerful Jedi in the room,'” said Headland. “And that’s Trinity.”

In the official trailer for The Acolyte, Indara shows off her hand-to-hand combat prowess in a battle with a masked character called Mae, portrayed by Amandla Stenberg. So you can already see the Trinity influences in the brief snippets of footage.

Moss expressed her appreciation of Headland and how she’s similar to Oppenheimer director Christopher Nolan as well as the Wachowskis. “I felt that a few times in my career with some of the big things I’ve done–Memento, The Matrix–where you’re talking to the filmmaker and you just go, ‘Oh, they totally get it,'” said Moss. The actress added that becoming a Jedi for The Acolyte “was [an] amazing experience.”

This isn’t the first time Headland has opened up about the upcoming Star Wars show. Earlier this week, The Acolyte creator chatted about the meaning of the title for the Disney+ series. Headland also has talked about why it’s a good thing one writer for The Acolyte knows nothing about the franchise.
