One of the best gaming deals from Amazon’s Prime Big Deal Days event is still available now. For $75, you can get a bundle featuring an Xbox Wireless Controller ($60-$70 value), Fire TV Stick 4K ($50 value), and a digital voucher for 1-Month of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate ($17 value). For $80, you can get the same bundle with a Fire TV Stick 4K Max ($60 value). This is essentially an Xbox Cloud Gaming starter pack, as Microsoft added the Xbox app to select Fire TV 4K streaming devices in July.
Amazon doesn’t have an end date listed for these bundles, so they could disappear at any time. Even if you aren’t interested in Xbox Cloud Gaming, Amazon’s bundle deal is still worth a look. If you want a new Xbox controller and have use for a Fire Stick, it doesn’t make sense to buy them separately at the moment.
Five controller colors are eligible for the bundle, including the ever-popular Robot White and Shock Blue models as well as the recently released transparent blue Sky Cipher Special-Edition Controller, which would cost you $60 (was $70) on its own from Amazon right now. Overall, you’re saving up to $62 with the Fire TV Stick 4K bundle. Your savings jumps to $67 with the 4K Max bundled with the Sky Cipher.
Here’s the full list of available bundles at Amazon:
- Xbox Wireless Controller + Fire TV Stick 4K + 1-Month Game Pass Ultimate – $75
- Xbox Wireless Controller + Fire TV Stick 4K Max + 1-Month Game Pass Ultimate – $80
Fire TV Stick 4K vs. 4K Max
If you plan on streaming games regularly on your Fire Stick, the 4K Max is the better option here. Though the two devices are quite similar, the 4K Max is speedier and generally provides a more stable connection. It also supports Wi-Fi 6E, which could be handy if you already have or upgrade to a Wi-Fi 6 mesh router such as Amazon’s eero Pro 6E, Google Nest Pro, or TP-Link’s AXE5400.
Xbox Cloud Gaming Library
Regardless of whether you currently own an Xbox or PC capable of playing today’s AAA games, you can stream them on your Fire Stick 4K using the Xbox app and a Game Pass Ultimate subscription. Fire TV Sticks are the most affordable devices with Xbox Cloud Gaming support.
Xbox Cloud Gaming’s library features hundreds of games, including the latest entries in the Halo and Forza franchises. Perhaps most notably, Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 will be added to the Xbox Cloud Gaming library at launch on October 25. If you don’t have a console or PC and want to try the new Call of Duty, this is a pretty nice deal.
You can check out the full Xbox Cloud Gaming library on the Microsoft Store.
Xbox Cloud Gaming Internet Speed Recommendations
Game streaming performance varies based on the speed and stability of your internet connection. The official recommendation for consoles, PCs, and streaming devices like Fire Sticks is only 20Mbps. This figure is slightly higher than the baseline for streaming 4K movies and shows on Netflix (15Mbps). If you have a high-speed internet connection, there’s a good chance it meets the recommended specs. That said, if multiple devices are active on your network at the same time, you’ll want considerably faster speeds. The 20Mbps figure doesn’t factor in other devices and users. A faster connection is especially important for online multiplayer games like Black Ops 6.
If you’re new to the Xbox ecosystem, it’s worth noting that you can also stream games on the Xbox app on your phone with a Game Pass Ultimate subscription. With a mobile data connection, the speed recommendation drops to 10Mbps. We’ve streamed games reliably with Verizon’s 4G LTE data connection. Some cloud-enabled games have touchscreen controllers integrated into the mobile experience, but a controller works better for most games. The Xbox Wireless Controller that comes with this bundle will work just fine on iOS and Android phones, but you’ll want to pair it with a mobile gaming clip like this one. When you’re on the go, a better option is a dedicated phone controller like the Backbone One turns your phone into a Nintendo Switch-like handheld. For a cheaper option with similar functionality, check out the GameSir X2 Pro.
Add to your Game Pass Ultimate subscription for less
And if you decide you want to remain a subscriber after your one-month subscription ends, your best option at the moment is three-month Game Pass Ultimate vouchers for $45 at Amazon. It costs $20/month to subscribe directly from Microsoft, so you’re saving $15 with Amazon’s deal; you can stack Game Pass Ultimate prepaid codes for up to 36 months, so you can wind up saving $60/year by purchasing your subscription this way.
