George Lucas. Hayao Miyazaki. Stan Lee. Shigeru Miyamoto. Names such as these have defined our lives. The art and products geniuses like these have created are as important to us as anything. And while we decorate our homes and imaginations with their work, what about the people themselves? When is their time in the sun?
That time is now. “Creators,” a new art show by Joey Spiotto, is now on exhibit at gallery1988.com. The artist, best known for his pop culture interpretations of Little Golden books, has taken that style and applied it to the people who have created all of our favorite bits of pop culture. “I have created A LOT of artwork over the years inspired by some of my favorite things in pop culture,” Spiotto told io9. “I thought it would be fun and different to mix things up a bit and shine a light on the people behind those things that we all love.”
This show consists of 30 new works of art, all 8 x 10-inch signed open editions that cost $20 each. “For this show, I tried to choose creators that have a unique or iconic look that we all know them for,” Spiotto said. “It’s also fun for me to add little nods to some of the creators more memorable works to help really tie it all together. Some are more obvious, some are subtle, but that’s fun for me to find the little things that if you’re a big fan, you’ll be able to identify right away.”
We’ve picked just a few of our favorites here, but to see the full show and buy a few for yourself, head to www.gallery1988.com.
