Brazil Nuts Recalled Nationwide Due to High Levels of Mold and Yeast

Brazil nuts have been recalled due to high levels of mold and yeast, according to Food Safety News and the U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA). The ongoing recall was initiated on August 14th, 2024. 

Now Foods has recalled their Whole & Unsalted Raw Brazil Nuts. The product has a UPC of “733739070128” and a best before date of September 2025. The Brazil nuts were distributed nationwide and in Singapore.

According to the USDA, exposure to some molds can cause allergic reactions and respiratory issues, especially in individuals with compromised immune systems. Additionally, certain types of mold can produce mycotoxins, which can lead to gastrointestinal problems like diarrhea and other serious consequences.

While there are some cases in which mold is safe to eat (such as in blue cheese and brie), it is generally recommended to be diligent about checking your food for mold. You should also make sure to properly store foods to prevent mold growth and make sure to handle any moldy food according to food safety guidelines.   

Consumers are urged to discard the product immediately. If you have purchased the recalled nuts, make sure to return them to the original place of purchase to request a refund.
