Blumhouse’s Wolf Man Reimagines The Universal Classic With Feral New Trailer

Estimated read time 2 min read

Leigh Whannell’s Invisible Man reimagined the Universal Monster classic (based on the H. G. Wells novel) as an allegory for domestic violence and became a box office hit in February 2020. The movie earned nearly $145 million on just a $7 million budget but was cut short due to the beginning of the global pandemic. Whannell is back with another modern take on the Universal monster, the Wolf Man. Universal dropped the teaser Friday along with a teaser poster.

The film stars Christopher Abbott (Kraven the Hunter) as Larry Talbot/the Wolf Man and Julia Garner (Fantastic Four: First Steps). Jason Blum serves as a producer through his Blumhouse Productions banner, alongside Motel Movies. Check out the teaser below.

Plot details are unknown but if it’s anything like the 1941 classic or even the 2010 remake, Talbot gets bitten by a werewolf at some point and becomes one himself. He terrorizes the local townspeople and his own family as he walks between the line of man and monster.

Now the teaser above didn’t show the redesign of the creature, but fans at Universal Hollywood Horror Nights got a sneak peak with the final design of the Wolf Man as part of a display with an actor in costume lurking about.

The design is in line with how the Invisible Man was reimagined and doesn’t look like a wolf here, especially compared to Rick Baker’s take on the 2010 remake. However, this is a mere adaptation of the look itself and will hopefully look better in motion on the screen. It’s also possibly not the fully-realized wolf form as well.

The Wolf Man hits theaters on January 17, 2015.
