Fans love fancasting, and they especially love doing it with Batman. While Robert Pattinson’s still donning the cowl for Matt Reeves’ recently delayed crime saga, folks are waiting to see who’ll play the Dark Knight in the also still-upcoming Brave & the Bold. If things went Bill Skarsgård’s way, he’d more than willing to play either Batman or Joker.
During a recent appearance on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, the new Nosferatu expressed his interest in playing Batman (or at the very least, Bruce Wayne) for the new DCU, which doesn’t have one yet. Brave’s status is currently in flux after director Andy Muschietti recently implied it got pushed back. While Skarsgård knows as much about that movie as anyone who isn’t Muschietti or James Gunn—aka, “not very”—he’s more than open to teaming with the director again after they previously collaborated on the It series.
Similarly, Skarsgård’s confident there’s a “really cool fucking Joker” in him, and thinks playing the Clown Prince would be “pretty sick.” That character’s place in the DCU is a little more unclear at the moment, since he hasn’t gotten a shoutout in Creature Commandos and the next major piece of Bat-media is 2026’s Clayface movie. But typecasting be damned, if anyone knows how to play a well-dressed murder clown, it’s this actor.
Or maybe he can be Batman and Joker? Skarsgård’s done some interesting genre work the past few years, and even when those movies weren’t entirely good, he’s been fairly good in them. That’d be a challenge, but an interesting one, and maybe he’s got what it takes to pull off that weird swing. It’s been a minute since one actor’s played dual roles in a movie, but if Sinners can do it, so can DC.
