Bill Skarsgård Takes Flight In First New Crow Trailer

This year is the 30th anniversary of the first Crow movie famously, and tragically, starring Brandon Lee in the titular role. Now, Bill Skarsgård is donning the facepaint for the character in a reboot, picking up the baton from Lee and Mark Dacascos, who played the character on a TV series adaptation of the film.

The first images of Skarsgard as the Crow arrived online last month, but didn’t make the best first impression with franchise fans. Of course, many were still willing to give it a chance. Well, we have our first trailer as Skarsgard’s Draven takes his revenge on the drug dealers and criminals that took his life, as well as the life of his fiancée Shelly (FKA twigs) while Post Malone’s “Take What You Want” blasts through the gunfire.

The romance between Eric and Shelly is showcased more this time around, as director Rupert Sanders wanted to take the Crow and make it a violent love story, with the emphasis on the romance.

“What drew me to this was the opportunity to make a dark romance, something that dealt with loss, grief, and the ethereal veil between life and death and reaching through that,” said Sanders. “Look, I grew up listening to Joy Division and the Cure, and this movie is a bit like a Cure song–the beauty of melancholy.”

The remake went through several development and production cycles going all the way back to 2008. Stephen Norrington (Blade) attempted the first revival, but the film soon went through various directors, screenwriters, and cast members attached at various points. Along with Norrington, directors like Juan Carlos Fresnadillo, F. Javier Gutiérrez, and Corin Hardy were initially signed to direct while Bradley Cooper, Luke Evans, Jack Huston, and Jason Momoa were all cast as Eric Draven during various points.

The Crow is set to be released on June 7.
