Bill Burr, Who Once Jokingly Mocked Star Wars Fans, Says Mandalorian Was A Career Highlight

Prior to being cast on the Star Wars TV series The Mandalorian, comedian and actor Bill Burr was known for his comedy bits poking fun at Star Wars and its fandom. So some were surprised that he was cast on the show. Reflecting on his Star Wars acting career, Burr said he had tons of fun filming The Mandalorian and called it a career highlight.

Speaking to Wired, Burr began by discussing how he came to be on The Mandalorian in the first place. He said The Mandalorian’s Jon Favreau listened to Burr’s podcast where he often made fun of Star Wars. When the two met at a mutual friend’s birthday party, Favreau said Burr would be good for a part on the show. Burr pointed out to Favreau that he likes to poke fun at Star Wars because it’s an easy mark for comedy. “If make fun of it, I can watch [Star Wars fans] get upset,” Burr said. Favreau said this was precisely why he wanted Burr to be on the show.

Burr, after some convincing from his wife, agreed to do the show. “I ended up having a great time,” he said, going on to praise the show’s similarities to spaghetti westerns and Clint Eastwood films. “It’s one of my favorite things I’ve ever done in my career. And I will say, Star Wars fans are cool as hell,” he said.

Burr played Migs Mayfeld in episodes in The Mandalorian Season 1 and Season 2. He previously defended his character’s Boston accent saying with a laugh, “Eff those nerdy, nitpicking nerds.”

The Mandalorian Season 3 wrapped up in April 2023 and a fourth season has not been announced. The franchise is shifting to the big screen in 2026 with the release of the movie The Mandalorian & Grogu. The next big Star Wars release is the TV series The Acolyte, which premieres in June.
