Bill and Ted’s Next Excellent Adventure Is… Broadway?

Estimated read time 2 min read

They’ve gone back in time, they’ve gone to hell, and they’ve saved the universe. And now, Bill and Ted will go on their scariest trip yet: to Broadway. Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter, who starred in the time-traveling trilogy of films, are set to reunite onstage next year for the classic play Waiting for Godot by Samuel Beckett.

“We’re incredibly excited to be on stage together and work with the great Jamie Lloyd in one of our favorite plays,” the actors said in a joint statement. Lloyd, who recently made Romeo & Juliet with Tom Holland, will direct the production.

Wildly enough, even though Reeves has been a massive Hollywood star for over 30 years, he’s never appeared on Broadway before. Winter has, but it’s been decades. In the play, Reeves will play Estragon and Winter will play Vladimir, two friends who happen to be waiting to meet the same person who, spoiler alert, never comes. In the meantime, they discuss many things and explore the ups and downs of their relationship and friendship.

Before the show opens next year, we’ll be seeing and hearing a lot from Reeves. He’ll appear in the body-swap film Good Fortune with Seth Rogen and Aziz Ansari, is voicing Shadow in Sonic the Hedgehog 3, and will reprise the role of John Wick in next summer’s Ballerina. Winter also just wrapped a movie called Adulthood, which he not only stars in but directs.
