While Amazon’s October Prime Day event officially starts tomorrow, Tues. Oct 8, we’re already seeing plenty of gaming deals land. That includes discounts on games, game consoles and accessories like gaming keyboards, mice and controllers from the top gaming brands. Whether your aim is to save on the latest game releases, snag older titles for less or prepare for the holiday season, there’s never a better time to shop. That said, Amazon isn’t the only retailer offering deep discounts right now — Best Buy and Walmart are also discounting PlayStations, Xboxes and Nintendo gadgets. No matter your platform, there’s something on sale for everyone.

Hey, did you know? CNET Deals texts are free, easy and save you money.

Below we’ve rounded up all the early Prime Day gaming deals available right now from numerous retailers, and we’ll continue to keep this page refreshed as new deals appear. And to further level up your gaming experience, don’t forget to check out Prime Day deals on headphones and laptops

Keep reading for all the best Prime Day gaming deals. But you’ll need to act fast, as these deals are limited-time offers and likely to sell out. Also note that the prices on games listed below are often for the physical (disc) versions of the game, so they’ll require a PS5 or Xbox with a disc drive to use.

Best Prime Day gaming console deals

Sony/CNET

Here’s a rare chance to score a direct discount on the PS5, with the digital-only console dropping to just $400 — a $50 savings. You can also save on the disc drive version and an NBA 2K25 bundle

CNET/Nintendo

The Nintendo Switch OLED is the best Switch model out right now, and you can enjoy it with $50 off thanks to this discount on Woot.

Nintendo / CNET

A Nintendo Switch standard (non-OLED) system normally costs $300 by itself, but this anti-Prime deal at Best Buy includes a digital copy of essential racing game Mario Kart 8 Deluxe (worth $60) as well as a 12-month Nintendo Switch Online membership ($20), saving you (ahem) a bundle.

When is Amazon Prime day 2024?

Amazon’s October Prime Day event, which it calls Prime Big Deal Days, will happen on Oct. 8 and Oct. 9. That doesn’t mean that deals aren’t available before or after those two days, but this is the window where you will see the greatest volume of discounts. We’re staying vigilant and rounding up the best offers on products like video games, consoles, controllers and more.

Do you need a membership for Prime Day gaming deals?

There are quite a few Prime Day gaming deals available across Amazon, but you will need a Prime membership to access a lot of the best discounts. Not every deal requires a Prime membership, the best way to know for sure is to browse and look for the “Prime Exclusive Deal” button on the page. If you do not see that button, a Prime membership is not required for that discount.

Are gaming deals available before Amazon Prime Day?

Amazon’s October Prime Day event — officially dubbed Prime Big Deal Days — is a 48-hour affair taking place on Oct. 8 and 9, but that’s not to say that brands and makers don’t get a bit excited at the prospect of a new sale and launch their deals early to try to get out ahead of the crowd. We see that a lot, meaning many gaming deals are available right now. And even once the event is done, we’re expecting there to be good deals to be found after, too, but they’ll likely have changed a lot.

Is Amazon Prime Day the best time to buy video games and accessories?

Yes, some of the best deals on games, console accessories and sometimes the consoles themselves happen during the Prime Day event and in the days before and after. Many of these items are at their all-time lowest prices and could go quickly. If you see a deal you’re considering, we recommend grabbing it before stock vanishes or time runs out.

How we choose the best Prime Day gaming deals

Many of us here at CNET have covered shopping events for several years, including Black FridayPrime DayMemorial Day and countless other sales. In that time, we’ve learned how to spot the best deals among a sea of thousands of superficial offers and scams, and we only surface the best offers from trusted retailers. We look for real discounts, quality reviews and remaining sale time when choosing video game deals to show you.

  • Real discounts mean genuine savings. We check pricing history for products listed as on sale so we know when it’s a case of an inflated list price rather than an actual discount.
  • Quality reviews and testing are super important for any product. A discount isn’t worthwhile if it results in a subpar product experience, no matter how much you saved.
  • Remaining sale time is important, too. Some deals are only around for a short time or may be limited in supply. If that’s the case, we’ll let you know upfront so you don’t come back to the deal later only to be disappointed.
