After receiving a lifetime ban for gambling on NBA games, Toronto Raptors player Jontay Porter will no longer appear in NBA 2K24. The forward-center reportedly bet on his own team to lose at one point as well as revealed private health information to a bettor.
Earlier this week, ESPN detailed the lifetime NBA ban for Porter, with the league adding its sharing details of its findings with federal officials. An official 2K statement was released confirming that Porter would also be pulled from NBA 2K24: “To ensure NBA 2K accurately represents the current players in the league, we are removing Jontay Porter from the active Play Now roster.”
NBA 2K24 was released last year and became one of the best-selling games in September and October 2023 in the US. However, Steam reviewers went after NBA 2K24 because the PC version was based on the Xbox One and PS4 editions of the game. At that time, NBA 2K24 was the second-worst rated title on Valve’s service.
Last month, NBA 2K24 got added to PlayStation Plus and Xbox Game Pass. The NBA Play-In Tournament is happening currently, with the playoffs beginning April 20.
The basketball video game series originally started in 1999 under Sega but has been under 2K since 2005. For more, check out GameSpot’s NBA 2K24 review.
