Athletes Are Eating Their Meals Out of Pasta Bowls in the Olympic Village, and You Can Snag Lookalikes From $6 Each

Estimated read time 4 min read

The Paris Olympics Food Village is a fascinating place. So far, I’ve learned that fresh baguettes and croissants are always available. I’ve also learned that there’s a convenience store filled with snacks and drinks and that the Olympic athletes are saying the buffet hall’s food is a little…bland. My favorite little tidbit of all, though, is that the dining hall serves its food in pasta bowls, as seen on TikTok

As a pasta bowl connoisseur, this gives me emotional satisfaction. I’ve never seen a pasta bowl at a buffet before, and quite frankly, I am jealous. It further proves my point that you can pop anything into these hybrid dinnerware pieces. The ones in the village are simple in design and versatile in size, which are all my preferences. While I can’t say what’s being used in Paris, I can share all my favorite picks. Shop a set for yourself, starting at $31, and eat all of your meals in them while you watch this year’s games—I know I’ll be!

Sweese 6-Piece 22-Ounce Pasta Bowl Set

Pasta bowls are, of course, perfect for pasta. But these Sweese bowls are the most ideal size for most pasta dishes, from cacio e pepe to homemade gnocchi. They’re smaller than others I own, so there’s less empty space when I am filling it up, making for a more enjoyable eating experience. Because of the size, sauces also stay in place, making it easier to get the perfect bite. They’re very lightweight, which I don’t mind because they’re still comfortable to hold even when filled to the brim. I also love these bowls for heaps of other dishes, as well as for eating snacks on the couch or serving certain desserts like brownie sundaes or berry cobblers. They’re porcelain and microwave- and dishwasher-safe. Plus, six come in the set for just $31.

Year and Day 4-Piece Outdoor 8.25-Inch Big Bowl Set

Year and Day

These outdoor bowls are so multi-purpose that I sometimes reach for them over regular ceramics, depending on the day. I typically take them out of storage as soon as it starts to get warmer; that way, they’re always within reach for eating outside. They’re nice enough that I don’t feel strange using them inside, too. I also appreciate that they’re sustainably made with plant-based materials. Despite their soft-to-the-touch lightweight design, you can still place them into the microwave and the dishwasher. And they’re stain- and scent-resistant, even in the moon shade.  They’re similar in size to the Y Yhy ones, with an 8.25-inch diameter and 2-inch walls to keep everything inside the bowl.

Y Yhy 6-Piece 30-Ounce Pasta Bowl Set

Amazon

These Y Yhy bowls are a crowd-pleasing pick. They’re not too big or too small at 30 ounces. Because of their size, you can fit a wide range of dishes, including salads, soups, stews, stir fry, casseroles, snacks and so much more. They’re made with porcelain, so they’re microwave- and oven-safe. They’re also dishwasher safe, so they’re very easy to clean. I own the smooth, shiny, white shade, which is similar to what’s used in the village. With six bowls in the set, there’s also plenty of dishes to go around. Shop the set on Amazon for under $6 apiece, thanks to the double discount.

Haand Ripple Large 20-Ounce Pasta Bowl

Haand

These are the bowls I recommend for folks who want to invest in a handmade piece with a little more design flair. I absolutely love everything about it, from its rippled, organic edges to the quality of the bowl. It’s durable and despite its artisan-made design, you can still pop it into the dishwasher or microwave. I love the 20-ounce size for so many different dishes, and whenever I am hosting, I reach for this bowl for serving sides, vegetables and more, thanks to its display-worthy look. It comes in a few shades, though I am partial to the birch shade (which I own), the fern shade and the terra shade.
