When we’re looking for ways to save at the grocery store, we know Aldi’s deals can be a lifesaver. Whether you scoop up some of their affordable monthly finds or just track down our usual favorites, you’re pretty much bound to save money shopping at Aldi. And just to make things even more budget-friendly, Aldi is dropping summer-long discounts on some classic summer foods and ingredients.
The retailer announced in a media release that it would drop prices on more than 250 items through Labor Day in an attempt to save shoppers $100 million over the summer months. To get you ready for your next trip to Aldi, we’ve rounded up seven of the discounted items that we’ll be adding to our grocery list for a summer full of healthy, delicious meals.
Simply Nature Chia Seeds
If you’ve been looking to add more plant-based protein to your day, a deal on these powerful little seeds makes it the perfect time to stock up. Aldi is marking chia seeds down to $4.89 from $5.45 all summer. Chia seeds are a delightful, simple way to bring protein to refreshing recipes like our Really Green Smoothie and High-Fiber Dragon Fruit & Pineapple Smoothie Bowl. You can also use chia seeds for fun, make-ahead breakfast options like a quick chia-berry jam or our Chai Chia Pudding.
Aside from their alluring protein and fiber content, chia seeds are also known for their ability to support heart and digestive health. Soluble fiber is critical to healthy digestion—and avoiding constipation—which is why one gastroenterologist says a simple chia tonic is the best drink to help you get things moving.
Season’s Choice Frozen Blueberries
Frozen fruit aficionados, here’s a discount for you: Aldi is dropping the price of its 24-ounce bag of frozen blueberries to $3.59 from $3.99, so you can scoop up plenty of berries for all your summertime needs. Use them in a weekend brunch dish like our Blueberry-Almond Overnight French Toast or let them add color, flavor and antioxidants to our yummy Berry-Banana Cauliflower Smoothie. Since blueberries are chock-full of health benefits, from supporting your brain health to reducing chronic inflammation, adding a bag to your cart is an easy way to fuel a healthier diet.
Simply Nature Organic Beans
Aldi is also lowering the price on its canned organic kidney beans and pinto beans from $1.16 to $0.99. Both of those protein-packed options are on our dietitian-approved list of the healthiest beans to eat, as they are rich in iron and a great meatless main dish option. Pinto beans in particular also offer lots of filling fiber, which can help keep you regular and support your heart and bone health. Add either of these beans to a fun salad or serve them up as a side dish with dinner. And if you’re craving something cozy, you could always add the kidney beans to our tasty Red Pea Soup or toss the pinto beans into a batch of Easy Chicken Tinga Rice Bowls.
Simply Nature Organic Granola Bars
Even the most organized person is bound to have a hectic morning every once in a while, and a compact, on-the-go breakfast can be a hero on those jam-packed days. These granola bars are a great option that you can toss in a backpack or your glove compartment as an emergency snack. Plus, since each bar has 10 grams of whole grains, you’ll get a little extra staying power to get you through the morning. Grab a box of eight bars this summer for $3.49, marked down from $3.99.
Southern Grove Dried Cranberries
If you’re looking for ways to doll up your salads this summer, adding some dried fruit to the mix can be a great call. We love tossing dried cranberries into all kinds of veggie-forward dishes, from our Apple-Cranberry Spinach Salad with Goat Cheese to this Creamy Broccoli Slaw. Plus, those same cranberries can be delicious as a cookie dough mix-in or an oatmeal accessory. And best of all, cranberries have quite a few healthy tricks up their sleeve—those little berries are bursting with antioxidants, support your heart health and may even help prevent UTIs, especially for folks who have them often. This summer, you can pick up a 6-ounce bag of Aldi’s dried cranberries for just $1.75, marked down from $1.95.
Southern Grove Sunflower Kernels
These delightfully crunchy sunflower kernels are a great pick for baseball park munching or trail mix curating, and Aldi is marking down its 16-ounce container from $3.39 to $2.79 all summer. If you can’t get excited about snacking on just the kernels, consider adding them to a fun recipe like our Super-Seed Snack Bars or Apricot-Sunflower Granola Bars. (Aldi’s dried apricots are perfect for those granola bars *and* they’re also a part of the summer savings—marked down from $3.39 to $2.99.)
A handful of these seeds offers a fun mix of healthy fats, fiber and protein, so you’ll know you’re opting for a balanced, healthy snack. They can be an especially healthy snack for expecting parents, so pregnant shoppers might want to snag a canister on their next Aldi run.
Chicken Breast Family Packs
For a slightly more limited time—this deal ends on July 10—you can snag a family pack of chicken breasts for $2.19 rather than $2.49 per pound. Use the money you saved on the chicken to scoop up some of the other ingredients you’ll need for a delicious chicken dinner, whether you opt for a bright and fresh quinoa-spinach salad or our stunning Crispy Pesto Chicken with Whipped Feta & Tomatoes. Either way, you’ll be dishing up plenty of protein—chicken breast packs in a whopping 26 grams of protein per serving—and choosing a simple main dish that can be a part of a heart-healthy, diabetes-friendly diet.
Even if you’re cooking for just one or two, this deal can still work for you. Whatever chicken you don’t use, simply freeze for later on. You could even go ahead and cook the chicken, using a recipe like our Shredded Chicken Master Recipe, then pop the shredded chicken into the freezer to use in soups or chicken salad later on. Future you is sure to be grateful for the leg up.
