Alan Ritchson Auditioned For Thor Based On His Looks Alone Because “Nobody Cares About Acting”

Reacher star Alan Ritchson has revealed he auditioned for the original Thor movie, but his approach to the try-out, looking back on it in hindsight, might have prevented him from getting the part. He told Men’s Health that he “didn’t take it seriously” because he thought he had the physique required for the role and not much else would matter to the casting department.

“I was like, ‘They’ll throw me the part if I look like the guy; nobody really cares about acting,'” he said.

The casting team for Thor apparently informed Ritchson after his audition that it was his part to lose but he didn’t show enough “craft” to get the role. In the end, Chris Hemsworth landed the part, beating out his own brother, Liam, for the role. Chris Hemsworth later admitted that his first audition for the part “sucked” but his subsequent try-outs improved.

James Bond actor Daniel Craig was reportedly offered the role of Thor but turned it down due to commitments for the James Bond series. Other actors who tested for Thor included Joel Kinnaman, Charlie Hunnam, and Alexander Skarsgard, among others.

Hemsworth played Thor in multiple standalone movies and in the Avengers team-up films. Director Taika Waititi has heard rumors of Thor 5 with Hemsworth, but the director does not plan to be a part of it. As for Hemsworth, he’s said people are growing tired of him as Thor.

As for Ritchson, he currently stars on the popular Prime Video series Reacher. He will be seen next in the film The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare from Guy Ritchie.

Ritchson also recently talked about how he we wants to play Batman someday. He is no stranger to the DC universe, as he played Aquaman on Smallville and Hawk on Titans.
