A Fifth Shrek Movie Is Coming in 2026

It’s time to return to the swamp with Shrek 5, DreamWorks’ upcoming legacy sequel that will take audiences back to Far Far away.

The film was officially confirmed by the studio online, along with the reveal that original Shrek stars Mike Myers, Cameron Diaz, and Eddie Murphy will be reprising their roles as the film’s heroic trio. Additionally, the film is set to release July 1, 2026. This comes on the heels of the major theme park presence Shrek and friends have had at Universal Studios Orlando’s DreamWorks Land—not to mention that tease at the end of Puss in Boots: The Last Wish, which saw Antonio Banderas’ feline hero set course to visit his friends back in the kingdom of Far Far Away. Variety offered up more details, including that Banderas is yet to be confirmed for Shrek 5—but with that end-credits tag, it’s to be expected that Puss (and hopefully Harvey Guillén’s scene-stealing Perrito) will join in the new adventure.

Previously Eddie Murphy teased the news while promoting his Beverly Hills Cop sequel for Netflix, telling Collider, “We started doing [Shrek 5] months ago … I recorded the first act, and we’ll be doing it this year, we’ll finish it up. Shrek is coming out and Donkey’s gonna have his own movie. We’re gonna do Donkey as well. So we’re gonna do a Shrek, and we’re doing a Donkey [movie].”
