There’s nothing quite like chowing down on a classic Peanut Butter and Jelly Sandwich — especially as an afternoon snack. And now, for the first time in a decade, Uncrustables fans have a new PB&J flavor to take out for a spin: Peanut Butter and Raspberry Spread.
The addition brings the number of Uncrustables flavors in the lineup up to five, with the other crust-free options being Grape Jelly, Strawberry Jam, Honey Spread, and Chocolate-Flavored Hazelnut Spread. It also means there are now enough choices that you can chow down on a new PB&J every day of the school — or work — week. (I mean, who says PB&Js have to be relegated to the playground?)
“Uncrustables were born from a simple yet powerful goal: make snack and mealtimes stress-free. This commitment to simple solutions for busy lives has made Uncrustables a beloved lunch and snack staple for so many,” said Chris Achenbach, marketing director at the J.M. Smucker Co. “That same commitment fuels our drive to constantly evolve and innovate. New flavors that excite kids, convenient options for adults on the go — it’s all about delivering deliciousness, no matter how busy life gets.”
If you’re somehow unfamiliar, Uncrustables pay homage to a favorite snack of children everywhere: a PB&J with the crust cut off the bread, sold in in the freezer aisle. The Frozen sandwiches, however, are designed to be ready to eat once they defrost so that mom can toss that sandwich straight from the freezer into Junior’s lunchbox.
Much like the other Uncrustables, the Peanut Butter & Raspberry Spread Sandwiches will be available in four- and ten-count boxes in the freezer aisle at major and regional retailers nationwide. Raspberry just started rolling out now, so if you don’t see it at your favorite supermarket yet, it will likely arrive later this fall.
Back in May, another Smucker’s brand, Jif, also dropped its first new flavor in nearly ten years: Jif Peanut Butter & Chocolate Flavored Spread.
That innovation combines classic Jif peanut butter with sweet chocolate to create a sweet and salty combination that can take your homemade PB&Js to the next level. The brand also notes that it’s “lower in sugar” than the leading hazelnut spread you might associate with it, and while it can absolutely be used in a Peanut Butter and Jelly Sandwich, it can also be great for spreading on waffles and desserts.
At the time, Gail Hollander, the chief marketing officer at The J.M. Smucker Company, said that the addition of the new peanut butter was part of the company’s goal of bringing Smucker’s brands into the new age — a goal that Uncrustables is getting a little closer to.
“You get the opportunity to rethink these brands, figure out where their heart is, what the DNA of the brand is, figure out how that connects into culture today,” Hollander said in May, adding that the overall goal is “creative that punches above its weight.”
