In a livestream this Monday morning, Apple unveiled a several new products from the Apple Watch Series 10 to the iPhone 16. One of those new announcements is the latest ear buds in the Apple lineup — the AirPods 4.
Pre-orders for the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Pro don’t open until this Friday, September 13. However, the AirPods 4 are already open for ordering at Amazon and Best Buy, and official release on Friday, September 20. You can get the ANC-enabled model for $179, or the model without for just $130.
Voice isolation removes background noise on your end for anyone your on a call with, so if you’re walking through a busy crowd got loud music playing around you, the person you are speaking with will hear you and only you.
Powered by the H2 chip, the AirPods are seeing improvements in audio quality with a new acoustic architecture for rich bass and crystal clear highs.
One interesting new little addition is how the AirPods can interact with Siri. You nod your head yes or shake your head no to both respond to Siri announcements and look like a weirdo on the train.
Changes to the Charging Case
The Apple livestream emphasized that the charging case now uses USB-C to be more convenient to the user. While yes it is more convenient, they’re only finally moving away from the Lightning port to align with the EU’s new laws. Still a win for the customer.
The case is Apple’s smallest yet to fit easily in most pockets, but can still hold up to 30 hours of total battery life. The case now supports wireless charging and a speaker has been added to help with the Find My app.
Finally, Active Noise Cancelation
The AirPods 4 notably mark Apple’s first set of open-ear buds to support active noise cancelation. Two version of the AirPods 4 are available, with an without ANC. The active noise cancelation model also include a transparency mode so you can switch back to hearing the world around you with ease.
Adaptive Audio automatically reduces noise for you based on changes to your environment, so no need to switch modes when moving from a quiet area to a noisy one. Conversation Awareness will recognize when you are talking face-to-face with someone and can automatically reduce media volume to accommodate. When the conversation ends, volume will return on its own to its higher, previous level.
The Apple AirPods 4 are now available for pre-order at both Amazon and Best Buy and are set to release Friday, September 20. Get the ANC-enabled model for $179, or the model without for just $130.
