HBO is bringing the behind-the-scenes chaos of making a superhero movie with The Franchise. Created by Mendes, Jon Brown, and Armando Iannucci, the series focuses on a crew for an upcoming superhero franchise film, trying to rein in the chaos of egos and their lives outside of the production.
“The Franchise follows the crew of an unloved franchise movie fighting for their place in a savage and unruly cinematic universe,” the official show description reads. “The comedy series shines a light on the secret chaos inside the world of superhero moviemaking, to ask the question–how exactly does the cinematic sausage get made? Because every f***-up has an origin story.” HBO announced the series will premiere on October 6 and released a trailer. You can check it out below.
You have to admit that HBO is pretty bold to allow this sort of thing where it’s not just poking fun of superhero movies but the people behind them, including the higher-ups. If you look closely, you can see the WB shield logo in the backlot and on the trailers.
The cast includes Himesh Patel, Aya Cash as Anita, Jessica Hynes, Billy Magnussen, Lolly Adefope, Darren Goldstein, and Isaac Powell. Recurring guest stars include MCU alumni Richard E. Grant and Daniel Brühl.
