HBO has released a trailer for The Franchise, a new comedy series about the making of a superhero movie franchise. Have a look:
Hailing from executive producers Sam Mendes, Pippa Harris, Nicolas Brown, Julie Pastor, Armando Iannucci, Jon Brown, and Jim Kleverweis (Unite the Seven, indeed!), the story concerns “the crew of an unloved franchise movie fighting for their place in a savage and unruly cinematic universe. The comedy series shines a light on the secret chaos inside the world of superhero moviemaking, to ask the question—how exactly does the cinematic sausage get made? Because every f*ck-up has an origin story.”
As evidenced by the trailer, the series promises to highlight the absurdity behind the scenes of an attempted superhero cinematic universe in the vein of the Marvel Cinematic Universe or DC’s “Batman Epic Crime Saga.” Described by Himesh Patel’s character as “a scrotum resting on a razor’s edge,” the cast and crew of Tecto: Eye of the Storm must contend with faulty pyrotechnics, despairing actors, uncooperative animals, and an angry set visit from a not-so-subtle Kevin Feige proxy.
The Franchise stars Himesh Patel as Daniel, Aya Cash as Anita, Jessica Hynes as Steph, Billy Magnussen as Adam, Lolly Adefope as Dag, Darren Goldstein as Pat, and Isaac Powell as Bryson, with recurring guests Richard E. Grant as Peter and Daniel Brühl as Eric. It’s set to premiere Sunday, October 6 at 10 p.m. ET/PT on HBO, and will be available to stream on Max.
