Dave Bautista Never Got Guardians Of The Galaxy Closure: “It’s Hard To Live With”

Dave Bautista played Drax in the Guardians of the Galaxy series, but ended his run as the muscular hero with 2023’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. Bautista has now reflected on his time playing the character, saying he doesn’t necessarily miss playing the character, but he misses the “family environment” of being together with his co-stars. He also talked about how he never got closure because he had to quickly leave the set after filming to make his next movie, M. Night Shyamalan’s Knock at the Cabin.

“It’s never going to happen again. It’s hard to live with that,” he told The Hollywood Reporter. “Our last night filming was here in Hollywood, and we wrapped at 3 or 4 in the morning. And then I literally had to run to the hotel, get my bags, jump on a jet and fly to Philadelphia to start Knock at the Cabin two days later.”

Bautista also wasn’t able to do press for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 or attend the movie’s premiere due to other commitments, and this contributed to the sadness he feels about Drax and the series in general.

“So there’s just a huge part of me that feels like there was no closure. I never really got to say goodbye to that character and that cast, and there’s always going to be some sadness involved when I start thinking about that,” he said.

Bautista previously talked about how he loved playing Drax but also felt relieved to move on from the role, in part because “the makeup process was beating me down.” He also noted that he doesn’t want Drax to be the role people remember him most for. “It’s a silly performance, and I want to do more dramatic stuff,” he said.

Looking ahead, Bautista is lobbying to Netflix to cast him as Marcus Fenix in the Gears of War movie.
