For many Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle fans, the original ’80s and ’90s animated series was their introduction to the team of amphibious martial artists. If you’ve been feeling nostalgic for the classic animated TV show, then good news, as the entire animated series is coming to DVD. It’s available to preorder at Amazon for $29, and it’ll be released on October 15.
$27.85 (was $34)
This is a massive collection features all 193 episodes of the original TMNT series across 23 DVDs. This isn’t the animated show’s first box set, but those previous releases are now out of print and usually sold well above their launch prices, making this new collection all the more enticing.
This version of the TMNT cartoon aired for 10 seasons from 1987 to 1996. Naturally, the series followed the Nintja Turtles Leonardo, Donatello, Michelangelo, and Raphael on their adventures against Shredder, Krang, and various other mutants. Compared to later incarnations, the original TMNT show is goofy and very light on animated violence, so you won’t have to worry about your kids being exposed to any questionable subject matter.

If you’re interested in exploring later incarnations of the Turtles, the 2003 animated series is a bit darker, but it has better animation, memorable story arcs, and will likely appeal more to slightly older audiences. The entire 155-episode run is available in an 18-disc DVD boxset for $47 (normally $60).
Another TMNT series worth checking out is the 2012 show that aired on Nickelodeon after the IP was purchased. This was the first TMNT series to be entirely CG-animated, and it received critical acclaim during its run. This one strikes a fun balance between charming adventures and more mature content, and it arguably has the best fight scenes in all of TMNT media. If you’re interested, all 124 episodes are spread across 20 discs and the boxset is priced $25.50 (normally $34).
For even more TMNT content, there’s also the many TMNT movies, the most recent being Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem, which has a unique art style and appropriately punk attitude. Of course, there are also many several graphic novels and guidebooks, including TMNT: The Ultimate Visual History and collections of IDW’s ongoing TMNT series. And for fans of classic TMNT, there are even a few collected editions of the Archie Comics and Mirage Comics runs on preorder.
