McDonald’s Is Bringing the Chicken Big Mac to the US

Chicken sandwich fans, now is your time to shine.

On Monday, Snackolater, the somehow most in-the-know food blogger on Instagram (seriously, I’m jealous of this account’s scoops) posted to their account noting that Mcdonald’s is “finally” bringing the Chicken Big Mac to the United States in 2024. 

As Snackolater noted, the announcement was actually revealed by McDonald’s CEO Chris Kempczinski in a recent video, where he compared the Chicken Big Mac to the classic beef option.

In an additional video posted in March, Kempczinski calls the OG Big Mac “the perfect sandwich” but added, “although, chicken is now going to try to give it a run for its money.”

He notes the chicken version comes with the “same build,” including three slices of bread, lettuce, cheese, and “of course the McDonald’s Big Mac Sauce,” but this time, it comes with two chicken patties. After biting into it, he shares the same enthusiasm for its taste as he does the beef option, noting, “One of the things I like about this Chicken Big Mac is the crunchiness of the chicken. You get a crunch with this Chicken Big Mac that you don’t get with a regular Big Mac. It just gives it a little bit of a different mouth feel.” 

So, how do you decide which one to go with? According to Kempczinski, you should just “get both.” 

As for how fans think it tastes, several international commenters took to Snackolater’s post to share their thoughts. “We had it in Canada last year. It was actually good. It’s like a big chicken nugget in between the Big Mac toppings,” one noted. “They had this in Dusseldorf and it was so buss,” which, we think is Gen Z for good??

As Snackolater added, the Chicken Big Mac has already been a popular choice in international locations, including across the UK and Australia. In fact, it was so popular that the brand had to pull it as a menu item because it simply couldn’t keep up with demand. 

However, it should be noted this won’t technically be the first time the Chicken Big Mac has made an appearance in the U.S. The brand tested the version of the sandwich in Miami in 2022. “We’re always looking to give our fans more ways to enjoy the classic menu items they know and love,” the brand shared with the Washington Post at the time. 

No word on the exact release timeline for the sandwich, though we reached out directly to McDonald’s for more information. We’ll let you be the first to know right when we hear back.
