The Helldivers 2 arsenal is getting an update on March 14, and for anyone looking to enforce peace by any means necessary, these new weapons will pack an electrifying punch. Described as experimental gear by developer Arrowhead, these new weapons and armor sets can be unlocked through the premium Warbond. The Cutting Edge lineup has three new primary weapons to earn, a new stun grenade, and a new pistol that can fire off laser beams.
LAS-16 Sickle
A laser rifle that fires in short bursts, this weapon doesn’t need to be reloaded but can overheat, requiring you to slap in a new heatsink to get it back into working condition.
SG-8P Punisher Plasma
This modified Punisher shotgun fires exploding plasma rounds, so it could be ideal for clearing groups of grunts when they clustered together.
ARC-12 Blitzer
Another crowd-control weapon, the ARC-12 Blitzer can an arc of close-range lightning or you can charge it up to fire off powerful bolts.
In the armor department, Helldivers 2 will have three sets of fashionable gear to equip when you’re bringing democracy to strange new worlds. Thanks to the recent patch, armor stats help you shrug off damage according to the durability of your chosen gear. The new armor sets include the EX-03 Prototype 3, EX-16 Prototype 16, and EX-00 Prototype X. Lastly, the most important new gear coming this month are a fresh selection of capes. You can’t promote liberty if you don’t look good, and you can add three new capes–featuring matching colors and designs–to your wardrobe.
Battle-pass progression in Helldivers 2 works a little differently when compared to the standard season pass system in several live-service games. Helldivers 2 allows you to unlock whatever you want on a page when you want it if you have the required number of medals to spend, but reaching a new page of gear requires spending a certain number of medals to do so. Cosmetic gear can also be found in the Superstore, and unlocking these items requires the premium Super Credits currency.
The good news is that you can easily earn this currency through play and Warbond progression, but if you’re in a hurry, you can buy some of this currency instead using real-world cash. Helldivers 2 is fairly generous with the Super Credits earned through regular play, and these items are priced very low as well. Mechs are also coming to Helldivers 2, and it looks like players will need to liberate the planet Tien Kwan if they want to add shiny new warsuits to their stratagem collection.
