At this weekend’s domestic box office, Alien: Romulus fell to No. 2 behind Deadpool & Wolverine. The Marvel flick reclaimed the No. 1 slot with $18.3 million and a new $577.2 million domestic total. By comparison, Romulus came up just a little short with $16.2 million, which raised its domestic total to $72.5 million. But when combined with its $152.8 million international take, Alien: Romulus’ cumulative $225.4 million worldwide total makes it the third highest-grossing film in the Alien franchise.

The only two Alien films that made more money were Prometheus–which earned $403,354,469 worldwide in 2012–and its sequel, Alien: Covenant, which finished with $240.9 million in 2017. It should be noted that the earlier Alien movies were released from 1979 to 1997, when ticket prices were considerably lower than they are now. That’s why Alien and Aliens didn’t have comparable box office totals with their successors.

It Ends With Us finished in third over the weekend with $11.85 million, and a new $120.8 million. The Channing Tatum thriller, Blink Twice, had a modest $7.3 million opening weekend at No. 4. In the fifth slot, The Forge had $6.6 million in its debut weekend.

Among the rest of the holdovers, Twisters twirled into sixth place with $6.2 million, and now has $248.6 million in its domestic total. The re-release of Coraline continues to outperform expectations with $4.9 million in seventh place, and $24.1 million to date from the film’s second run. Meanwhile, The Crow crashed and burned at No. 8 with $4.6 million in its opening weekend. Despicable Me 4 came in ninth place with $4.4 million, and $348.2 million to date. Finally, Pixar’s Inside Out 2 held on at No. 10 with $2.1 million. With $646.3 million domestically and $1.649 billion worldwide, Inside Out 2 remains the top-grossing film of 2024.
