Mark Hamill Returns as Washed-Up Luke Skywalker in Star Wars’ New Lego Special

Estimated read time 2 min read

We already knew the next Lego Star Wars animated special was doing some wild things in its twisty re-imagination of the galaxy far, far away, like Darth Jar Jar. But now we know it’s also about to bring Mark Hamill back into action as a… less than enthusiastic version of Luke Skywalker.

Lucasfilm and Lego just released a new extended trailer for Rebuild the Galaxy, a four-part special series coming to Disney+ next month. The special follows a young boy named Sig Greebling (Stranger Things‘ Gaten Matarazzo), who inadvertently re-writes the Star Wars galaxy as we know it by accidentally removing a fabled artifact known as the Cornerstone from an ancient Jedi temple. Rebel AT-AT Walkers! Darth Rey! Admiral Ackbar Clone Troopers! Darth Rose Tico! A redeemed Vader! Darth Jar Jar!

There’s a lot of fun going on, but the trailer also confirms that Mark Hamill will return to Star Wars once more to voice Rebuild the Galaxy‘s take on Luke Skywalker. Here a retired party dude, he’s far from the great hero of the Rebellion… and less than impressed when Sig and his allies attempt to convince him that his canonical fate is better than what he’s got going on in this new galaxy. But presumably we’ll end up seeing the galaxy safely put back to normal by Rebuild‘s end—just not before we get some mashup hijinks, from TIE-X-Wings to a tricked out evil Millennium Falcon.

Lego Star Wars: Rebuild the Galaxy begins streaming on Disney+ September 13.
