Warner Bros. Pictures has announced that 2022’s The Batman is coming back to theaters, but only for one night. The movie will return to theaters in the US on Wednesday, August 28, and internationally “on a select date on or near the 28th,” the movie studio said.

Warner Bros. is bringing the movie back to celebrate the upcoming release of the TV series The Penguin, which premieres September 19. The re-release of The Batman includes a theater-exclusive behind-the-scenes look at how The Penguin was made, featuring commentary from Colin Farrell and executive producers Matt Reeves, Dylan Clark, and Lauren LeFrance. Craig Zobel, who directed the first three episodes of the show, will appear in the footage as well.

The Batman earned more than $770 million during its original run in theaters in 2022. Farrell’s Oz/The Penguin was a standout character in the film, and HBO hatched plans for a spin-off with Farrell coming back to play the character again.

The eight-episode limited series premieres September 19 and will stream on Max. The TV series leads almost directly into The Batman: Part II, which is set for release in 2026.

In other DC movie news, the next big release is Joker: Folie a Deux, which comes to theaters this October with lots of hype and excitement behind it, as Lady Gaga joins the cast alongside Joaquin Phoenix.
