Here’s something you never dreamed you could do, but are about to. You’re about to take a tour of a movie set from wherever you are reading this right now. All the sets, all the stunts, all the actors. And director Eli Roth will be your tour guide.
io9 is excited to debut this super freaking cool new video shot on the set of the upcoming video game adaptation, Borderlands. Teaming up with Light Sail VR, Roth shot some incredible footage on set with many of his stars such as Cate Blanchett, Kevin Hart, and Ariana Greenblatt. Plus, while the below footage works best in VR, it works pretty dang well in 2D too.
“I’m a huge fan of VR and have been shooting with a GoPro 360 since 2018,” Roth said in a statement. “I knew during the pandemic set visits weren’t possible, and I wanted to give fans the experience of what it was like to be on set recreating the spectacular world of Borderlands. You’ll see how much of the sets our incredible art department in Budapest built, you’ll be right there with the actors rehearsing the action, and see Cate Blanchett and Ariana Greenblatt a hundred feet in the air running and jumping from a falling truck bed. We worked with my friends at Light Sail VR to create a spectacular experience that places you right at the center of the action. It really gives the feeling and vibe of what it was like to be on set with all of us in the insane world of Borderlands.”
Here it is.
In Borderlands, a legendary bounty hunter (Blanchett) visits her home planet of Pandora on a mission to find the missing daughter of the evil Atlas (Edgar Ramírez). Along they way she teams up with a motley crew of characters who’ll together end up on a quest to solve one of the planet’s biggest mysteries. They’re joined by Kevin Hart, Jack Black, Ariana Greenblatt, Florian Munteanu, Gina Gershon, and Jamie Lee Curtis. It opens August 9.
