For your grandparents, there was nothing more Saturday morning than a bowl of cereal and catching a new episode of the Superfriends on TV. That classic animated series is headed to Blu-ray, so now you too can experience the joy of watching the cartoon that brought the Justice League of America to life on the small screen with the Super Friends: The Complete Collection on Blu-ray. The collection is set to launch on September 10, and preorders are available now.

If you never watched it, likely because you hadn’t been born yet, Superfriends aired on TV between 1973 and 1986, running for nine seasons in total. Starring DC Comics heavyweights like Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman–and Aquaman, for some reason–the Hanna Barbera cartoon series teamed the superheroes up with the teens Wendy and Marvin, as well as their Scooby Doo-like pooch Wonder Dog. Yes, we know this is weird. This was wholesome entertainment, and the characters would tackle topics like pollution and other issues plaguing society.
Lex Luthor’s Legion of Doom would also eventually be established to oppose the JLA as the show adapted with the times. Wendy, Marvin, and Wonder Dog were dropped in favor of the Wonder Twins and their monkey sidekick Gleek, and the franchise eventually wrapped up with the 1985-1986 season, The Super Powers Team: Galactic Guardians. This Blu-ray includes all the nine seasons of the JLA adventures, which is made up of the following shows, all cleaned up and remastered for Blu-ray:
- Super Friends (1973)
- Super Friends (1978)
- Super Friends (1980-1983)
- Super Friends: The Lost Episodes
- The All-New Super Friends Hour
- Challenge of the Super Friends
- The World’s Greatest Super Friends
- Super Friends: The Legendary Super Powers Show
- The Super Powers Team: Galactic Guardians
Note that preorders are currently listed for $108, but we expect the price could change ahead of release. Either way, preordering from Amazon guarantees you’ll only pay the lowest price, and you won’t be charged until your order ships.
There’s a rich history of animated series based on DC Comics, and if you’re looking for more, you can’t go wrong with Batman: The Animated Series. Normally $80, Batman: The Complete Animated Series has been discounted to just $48 for the 12-disc set, a pretty great deal considering that all 109 episodes have been remastered in full HD. There’s also Batman Beyond: The Complete Animated Series for $40 on Blu-ray, and Justice League Unlimited: The Complete Series is just $25 for several seasons of action-packed animation.
