Estimated read time 2 min read

Last week, an ongoing investigation was announced surrounding a Listeria outbreak, causing 30 hospitalizations and two deaths. On Friday, the main source of the outbreak was determined by the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS): Boar’s Head ready-to-eat deli meat products.

Sliced and sold at delis nationwide, approximately 207,528 pounds of Boar’s Head branded products were recalled as it may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes bacteria. The following Boar’s Head meats are at-risk:

  • Strassburger Brand Liverwurst with sell by dates July 25, 2024, through Aug. 30, 2024
  • Virginia Ham Old Fashioned Ham with printed sell by date “AUG 10.”
  • Italian Cappy Style Ham with printed sell by date “AUG 10.”
  • Extra Hot Italian Cappy Style Ham with printed sell by date “AUG 10.”

  • Steakhouse Roasted Bacon Heat & Eat with printed sell by date “AUG 15.”
  • Garlic Bologna with printed sell by date “AUG 10.”
  • Beef Bologna with printed sell by date “AUG 10.”

If you recently purchased any of the above Boar’s Head meat products, dispose of it immediately. Listeria infection can cause listeriosis, an illness that can become a serious disease for elderly, pregnant or immunocompromised individuals. Symptoms include fever, muscle aches, nausea, vomiting, and, in severe cases, convulsions and seizures. Talk to your doctor if you’re experiencing any of these signs after eating deli meat that may be contaminated.
