M. Night Shyamalan’s latest movie, Trap, is scheduled to hit the big screen on August 2. A fan recreated the Grand Theft Auto 5 the film launch, and Shyamalan recently praised the fan-made project.
The video was initially posted on the Final Flame Productions YouTube channel. This account has a history of recreating movie trailers within GTA 5, including Joker 2 and Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F. Shyamalan caught wind of the video featuring his new movie, prompting him to say on X/Twitter, “This is so cool!”
Trap tells the story of a father who takes his daughter to a pop concert. But the catch is that the father is a serial killer, and the police have set up the concert to catch him.
The video’s YouTube description reveals that the trailer was made using the GTA 5 PC Rockstar Editor. Instead of having Josh Hartnett play the killer, the fan-made trailer has Michael De Santa, one of the game’s main protagonists, take his spot. This is oddly spot on, given how Michael acts throughout the majority of the game.
GTA 5 was released way back in 2013, but a sequel, GTA 6, will finally launch in 2025. Its ongoing development will not be impacted by the just-launched video game voice actors strike.
