New PS5 Update Out Now, Allows You To Invite Random Internet Strangers Into Your Games

A new PS5 update has rolled out, and in addition to the usual stability and performance improvements, users can expect a new method for inviting other players to join their game sessions.

Update 24.05-09.60.00 will allow players to share a URL link to their open session, by opening the game session action card and using the “Share Link” option to generate a QR code. All a player has to do then is scan the QR code with their mobile device, and they’ll be able to join a session. If you’re feeling brave, you could theoretically throw this URL onto the internet and see if anyone joins you for a quick multiplayer game, in case you need some quick backup.

Players enrolled in the Voice Command preview program can also use the command “Show Game Help” to open Game Help action cards, and Sony says it has updated the device software of some DualSense wireless controllers to make them more stable.

The last couple of PS5 firmware updates have added several quality-of-life updates, like fixes for Remote Play, mutable system beeps, and other general tweaks. Meanwhile, PlayStation Portal owners can also use the gaming handheld in more places as a recent update will allow users to connect to public Wi-Fi networks.

You can invite other players to game sessions by sharing a URL to the session.

• To invite other players, open the game session action card and select Share Link. Then, scan the QR code with your mobile device to share the link.
• This feature is available only for open sessions that anyone can join.
• This feature will gradually be rolled out to all players by July 24.

Voice Command now supports the ability to open Game Help action cards by saying “Show Game Help”. Currently, Voice Command (Preview) is available only in English for players with accounts for PlayStation Network in the US and UK.
