Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth: Fort Condor – Junon Protorelics Guide

Estimated read time 4 min read

As a remake, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth still has a lot of callbacks that make long-time fans fondly remember the original. One of those is a certain challenge where you have to defeat an advancing army. Here’s our Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth Fort Condor and Junon Protorelic guide to help you with this minigame.

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth Fort Condor and Junon Protorelic guide

Fort Condor is back in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth. This time, it’s not just a one-off, but a series of activities that are available as early as Chapter 4: Dawn of a New Era. You have to do these minigames if you want to complete the Protorelic objectives in the Junon region.

Junon Protorelic challenge locations and unlock conditions

You unlock the Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth Junon Protorelic challenge once you partially complete the main campaign objectives in Under Junon. We’ve numbered the order in which you head to these locations:

Fort Condor minigame basics

Fort Condor is akin to a MOBA or tower defense game:

  • You and your opponent have headquarters–whoever destroys an HQ first wins the match.
  • Troops approach via two lanes (left and right). Enemies that will spawn are shown in a meter on the right-hand side of the screen.
  • Your ATB gauge, seen in the upper-left corner, determines when you can spawn your own units. Your troops will also move and target foes automatically.
  • Units types follow a rock-paper-scissors concept:
    • Vanguard units (red) have powerful melee capabilities, and they can easily defeat ranged units.
    • Ranged units (green) can hit opponents from afar, and they can bring down defense units.
    • Defense units (blue) can take a lot of punishment, and they’re great against vanguard units.
  • You can summon heroes once you’ve spawned enough units of a particular type: Cloud (defense), Barret (ranged), and Tifa (vanguard). Heroes have AoE capabilities that can turn the tide of battle.
  • There are support units that can heal, as well as forward artillery that you can place on the field.
  • As units advance, you can spawn troops closer to the enemy’s base. However, if hostile units on the field advance toward you–without being blocked–the spawn area also becomes limited.
Punch through a lane so you can destroy your opponent's structures.

The best setup to win Fort Condor matches

For our Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth Fort Condor matches, we chose the following setup:

  • Option #4: Entrench – Stronghold Defense Focus
  • Hero units: Cloud and Barret

There are several reasons for this. The first is that the Elite Enforcer/Enforcer plus 3x Cleric combo is nigh unbeatable due to tankiness and healing. We had most of our units focus on the right lane, while watching out for hostiles that are encroaching along the left. Then, as we advance farther afield, we can also summon Elite Rangers, Ballistae, and Trebuchets to deal damage at a distance.

Since we primarily used defense units, followed by ranged units, we were often able to call on Cloud and Barret, too. We summoned them just as enemies group up close to our own troops due to the AoE damage that they deal.

Having a more defensive-oriented approach, while also using Cloud and Barret, helped us win many matches.Having a more defensive-oriented approach, while also using Cloud and Barret, helped us win many matches.

That does it for our Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth Junon Protorelic and Fort Condor guide. Don’t forget that you unlock hard mode once you’re done with this entire quest chain. Enemy troops will be stronger, while your own units will be slightly weaker. Additionally, you’ll notice that another cutscene involving the Eccentric Swordsman will play.
