Before the Shadow of the Erdtree expansion arrived for Elden Ring, director Hidetaka Miyazaki set some interesting expectations for the DLC’s map. He basically said the new map would be similar in size to the base game’s starting area of Limgrave.
That’s definitely underselling the Realm of Shadows, the DLC’s map, quite a bit. In fact, on X (formerly known as Twitter), an account called Elden Ring Updates posted Shadow of the Erdtree’s world over the top of Elden Ring’s landmass. It’s pretty astonishing viewed this way and shows it’s clearly bigger than Miyazaki initially teased.
Last week, Shadow of the Erdtree released to critical acclaim. In fact, The Witcher developer CD Projekt Red congratulated the Elden Ring DLC for breaking the record for best-reviewed RPG expansion, overtaking the throne from Blood and Wine.
